Uploading .png images

I can upload a .png ok, but if I use one that is not rectangular with some transparent background, the thumbnail gets a black background. Is there anyway around this please?

well...thumbs are jpegs i guess...so they cannot remain transparent

u may look into fotojobs.php but im not sure if this will be of any help...
