Import Products

I need an import script that can import an Excel product file on a weekly basis.

Is there a way to match the category names in the Excel file with the pages in QuickCart because with 5,000 products, it's difficult to assign the actual page ID before-hand.

I also need it to link to the manufacturer and it doesn't appear that the current 3.7 import feature includes that possibility.

Is anybody able to write such a script if I provide the Excel file? Willing to pay for a good result.

I hope, I understood this well.
I'll describe my db-excel extension I use in my shop:
I created an excel-file (in csv-format) with spare parts from existing pdf document (i had only pdf) - this is a job for pdf-extractor or -exporter. however, I've got the csv-excel file.
The file has 2.500 entries with part name, number, price and short description.
I did NOT import this to main database (_products.php) but created from it a 'side-db' and rebuilt the search engine. on my shop if you go to spare parts, you see the parts existing in _products.php, if you search a spare part and this does NOT exist in the _products.php the algorithm searches in the 'side-db'. If success, a new product will be created in _products.php using datas from the 'side-db' and you get this in search results and the main db has grown only with one product.
of course you can import them at once - but by more thousands of products, by accessing at the same time of more users, the page can slow down.

tiggerific>> I specialize in import like this. I have made an import script that imports products from MS Excel or OpenOffice Calc directly into QC. My customers have been very happy with it. I always tinker with the script and make it pretty much conform to the customers's XLS format.

Import script is importing/creating pages, products, features, attributes and images [filenames], although images should be uploaded to FTP beforehand. It's a result of 2 years of work, the script has been remade from the ground up 3 times.

Usage not difficult, you just save the file out, upload to FTP, run the script, done. You can do this every day twice if you want to, it's an easy and fast process.

I have even made a special macro with an export button for OpenOffice Calc, to allow you upload/import from Calc to QC with just 1 button pressed. EASY.

Ok - that sounds good - what's the best way to get in touch with you?

Email? Skype? I would need a quote and evidence that this is going to work for my client on a regular basis.

Oh, please contact me at support@ezy-hosts.com if you can as I don't get notifications from this board.

Thanks again.

To close this thread: this has been done to Tiggerific's total satisfaction. In addition to normal products import I have made a good progress on auto-download and resize of images remotely, on the server that is importing them. Lovely.
