Numbering positions above 999

Is it possible to use position number higher than 999? I don't have more than 1000 products but this would be nice for positioning large amount of categories, subcategories and products..

Tried but cannot go higher than 999.

Look into:
/core/product-admin.php
function saveProduct
and in:
/templates/admin/product.tpl
search for inputs, their maxlength="3"
