How do I get rid of the default "best sellers" and "new products" from the top menu? Please see here: http://examaids.com/quickcartstd/index.php
The first "new products" doesn't appear as a category, neither does bestsellers. I'm not sure where they are picking up the products from.
Also, the page animates when you select the top menus. How do I stop that? I haven't modified any CSS classes, apart from the menu item font size for the left menus.
Now, how do I stop the page from animating when I click on the "products" link in the top menu? When I click on it, the page moves to the left. Looks really bad when it does that. http://examaids.com/quickcartstd/index.php
Examaids - what browser You use ... maybe add some screenshot to give example?

Hi -- I'm using Firefox 2.0.03 on the Mac (PPC). I thought I did better than a screenshot. The link should take you to the cart where you can click on the "products" link in the top menu and then one of the other links in the top menu to see what I mean.
Examaids - i dont have MAC but in FireFox I dont see any problems. Put photo on freeware images hosting

Hi - Have uploaded the screenshots here: http://examaids.com/examaids-screenshots.zip
I also looked in IE5 on the Mac and it just shows mangled pages!!! Some of the images are missing. Might be because they are PNGs. Not sure.
The screenshots are taken in latest Firefox, Safari and IE on the Mac. They are named accordingly. The links I clicked on are also in the file names. Basically, I clicked on Products and then New Products in the top menu.
Safari also shows the left menu items incorrectly. The font size was too big. I adjusted it according to one of your posts. It corrected the problem in Firefox but NOT Safari.
These are serious bugs on the Mac OS. If you are selling software, as I do, people buy for Windows and Mac OS and use both Safari and Firefox and some still use IE and Netscape (Netscape showed pages as per Firefox) when buying for the Mac. The cart just cannot be used in its present state on the Mac. It will put customers off from buying.
Your're right about the png thing - change them to jpgs, the pic problem will dissappear! As a far as the font thing is concerned - the problem is in the css! the block in the left menu, the display block and the font size are not indicative to a lot of text (as with your menus) its dropping them down a line, but theres no space allocated, and its screwing up. You'll have to play with the sizes and the styles to get the look you want.
Oh, before you go on about this not being a useable software package (its not a directly "for sale" item - its open source, however they do have, as you already know, a pay-for-extras-version) I'm defending something here that really doesn't need it, this is free stuff, free!! If you want to bitch about it - don't! - Some plug-ins are written by people to sell as "add-ons", as is their desire to do so. If this does'nt work as well as you want it, sorry. It did'nt for me, but I fiddled with it to get it to do what I wanted - I didnt say this or that about Macs or PC's on this forum (waste of time comparing them anyway - who cares? just as long as they do the job they are supposed to do). I use both.....
Try fixing the css sheets first, the "animating" of the pages is probably due to the content inside the products list, products details, and columns in the body styles, they are dispalying the contents according to the sizes specified, if there is more info then the containers will "try to fit" the text in before moving down a line - hence the container getting wider and narrower from page to page - all this in the css as well.....

Yes, everything is fixable if you know how *and* have endless time.
Not sure why you think I'm bitching. I paid for the cart but find it unuseable. I asked for support and didn't recieve a reply! I asked for my money back and didn't receive a reply!!! I spent time trawling through this forum and found some fixes that *should* have been in the paid version of the cart, IMO.
I'm not a platform basher. I was pointing out that the page layout has serious problems on the Mac, which is used by at least a third of our customers.
If anyone is designing web pages on the PC and doesn't have access to the Mac, they should go here: http://www.browsrcamp.com/ This would've shown the animation and a fix found BEFORE the cart was marketed.
I appreciate the help you have provided but if you don't want to (saying the obvious doesn't help, just makes people who might be able to help think the problem has been solved), then please don't make assumptions.
I would still like to know how to fix the CSS problems on the Mac. Ideally, someone posting the fixes as replacements for the current styles.
OK the best way to fix the css is (trial and error - unfortunately) change the css bit by bit - the reason being is that what you may want, someone else doesnt, so as to posting a fixed css sheet, thats a little difficult - the easiest way may take a little longer but it does work. (The 2.0 version has changed a bit from 1.4 - so if you're looking at the "sample sites" QC has, they are mostly older versions, the newer ones are ALL the same.
I didnt know you had purchased a copy (my bad - I apologise in advance for MY assumptions) I just get a lot of (almost too much) platform bashing myself - so I got a little twisted. It seems that as soon as someone finds out you are on a Mac - then thats the problem!, no matter what it is, they blame the Mac, gets me upset, sorry.
The easiest way to "fiddle" with the css, if you dont have Dreamweaver or some html editor is to open a copy of the default.css in teachtext, and change the font sizes and styles - you can globally change the entire content using the find/replace tool - generally speaking the blocks are the sizes of the containers text reside in and the colors are usually starting with a # {I don't know how much html/php/ code you understand so if this is way basic, I'm just trying to point you at the right areas}
Examaids - thx for info about http://www.browsrcamp.com/. We didn't know that it is possible to see page in MAC on Safari browser. In this browser http://82.51.167.118/safaritest/1174735172-full.jpg we see that menu top is below 5-10 pixels.
Because this forum is for freeware support for those who use freeware applications then it is lower priority then paid QC etc. We didn't recieve any email from You before.
Please contact with us about this problem on email: http://opensolution.org/?p=contact
We will try to repair this problem but it will be not easy because we dont have MAC system.
Another point is that we have demo versions of paid QC. You should check this before You bought and maybe You will not be so angry because of that: http://opensolution.org/Quick.Cart/demo_ext/ http://opensolution.org/Quick.Cart/demo_pro/
We specially create demo version with admin access to check all You want before You buy. We sepcially want that users will be not cheated from us that they order something that they dont know.
In our opinion MacOS is very very small part of all OS and it for us dont have so much big problem because maybe 1-1.5% users use this system (http://www.ranking.pl/index.php?page=Ranks:RanksPage&stat=1|FG) - tested on 3 418 122 users from all world.
Another problem is MSIE 5.0. Check this: http://www.ranking.pl/index.php?page=Ranks:RanksPage&stat=2|FG
All users using MSIE 5.0 are 0.8% (tested on 3 433 144 users). Another problem is that this browser is tested in all OS. Then users using MacOS and MSIE 5.0 will be below 0.2%. Safari browser is 0.3%. MSIE 5.0 on Windows works good with QC 2.x.
Yes of course we see problem and we will try to fix it (because You have give us possibility to fix sending us website address) but for us it is not so big problem that You written.
idaryl - zen-cart yes?
then please check this demo: http://www.zencarttraining.com/zencart/demo/
In Opera 8.5.4 (broken), IE 6.0 (ok), FF 2.0.x (ok), IE 5.0 (broken) and this: http://www.browsrcamp.com/ (broken)
You will see that right side is broken and in IE 5.0 (windows) is not centered but in the left. They care about it?

Hi -- First of all, I'm not angry. I was disappointed at the lack of support I got (I sent two emails via the form here) but not angry at anyone.
I did try the free demo. That's what made me purchase the cart. Admin was fairly easy to use. However, it did not have the PayPal gateway, so there is NO way to "check all you want." I may have got that wrong but I don't think I have. I dumped the demo once I had the standard version installed. The standard version does have a PayPal option but it's not a gateway.
The paid version "seemed" to have the PayPal gateway, which is what I wanted. When I bought the cart, I was taken to the PayPal page automatically. This just "seemed" to confirm to me I was making the right purchase. Why wouldn't you be using the paid versions yourself? Didn't make sense. However, when I came to set up the cart, I found it didn't actually have the PayPal gateway installed as an option. I pinged support but got no reply.
All that apart, I managed to find and to follow the instructions for Stormy's plugin. What surprised me is this wasn't in version 2.0.1. Anyway, I managed to upgrade the pages and with Idaryl, I. Daryl, iDaryl (???) help managed to plug the product name into the PayPal payment page, which is something I needed to do.
I have to ask, not being confrontational, how thoroughly do you test any demo you download? It's impossible to check ALL of the functions. In this case, check something very obvious: how the UI is drawn in all the major browsers on the two major platforms: Windows and Mac OS X. People don't check the obvious in my experience.
I looked at quite a few carts, including Zen Cart, before finding Quick Cart. They all require MySQL, or programming skills to customise them. With all due respect, finding faults in other people's software is no defense for the faults of your own software. The thing to do is to fix them once they have been brought to your attention.
As for figures, I wouldn't pay too much attention to them. You can interpret them any way you like. If you are selling Mac software, then 100% of your customers are going to be using either Firefox, or Safari and a few stragglers still using IE 5.0 and the fact that only 0.0000000005 % of people may use Macs becomes irrelevant.
Imagine you have a shop selling MacBooks and iMacs. What percentage of your users are going to be Windows based?... When I go to any software "creative" event, when asked to raise hands, the majority is always Mac based. If I went to a gaming event, I'm sure the majority will be Windows based...etc, etc...You see what I mean about figures?
This is how I see it: if you supply software that can be used on either platform, then regardless of the figures, it's your responsibility to make sure it's working without problems on both platforms. That or just say up front "This product will work on the Mac but it has not been tested buy us on the Mac. We will do our best to fix any problems you may encounter but you buy it at your own risk." Something of that order...
I will contact you by the contact form as suggested. I really would like to use the cart...It has a lot going for it and, no doubt, upgrades will add more functionality in the future.
Examaids - thank You for very important info. Please contact and we will try figure it out. 2 emails You send as i said we didnt recieve before. You written that You tested demo version but free ... why not paid version? We had QC.Standard demo version too.

Treewood -- I sent another email via the contact form on the 29.3.2007 as per your advice above. It's now the 4.4.2007 and no reply or acknowledgment.
This is my third message sent via the contact form that hasn't had a reply!
