adding hmtl to pages [v2.0]

how come that the only way I can add html I have to put <!-- --> at the begining of the page?? Otherwise when creating new pages other than the contact us page, whatever I put in the new page won't show up at all except if I add <!-- -->...

any workaround for this?

in editing categories. Whatever I write in the long description it won't appear unless I add <!-- --> before

as soon as I remove the <!-- --> the page becomes blank
