Integrate gift certificate functionality

Hi,
has anybody build a gift certificate functionality and can share some information what and how he/she has done it? Or is there even a plugin I missed?

I thinking about this, you can create a special category with a special product, for explain:

category: GIFT, product: QWRTTDFGHRZHFD, price:-5$.

and now, you can set up this category and product as hidden, but you cannot see this, i thing, we need just change code and setup something like: if (category=="GIFT") do not show category and/or products in product list. But if you using SEARCH engine and put QWRTTDFGHRZHFD value, you can found it and ADD TO CART.

It is just my idea. What are you thinking about treewood?
