Use french.php in LANG

I would know how to change the language into quick.cart.
I've downlaod fr.php corresponding to french language and put it into lang directory but.. nothing appears.

Where I must modify any file, sorry but i'm newbie.

In 1.0+
Now log into Admin>Configuration and choose "fr" from the langage tab. Reconfigure the currency etc..

(V2+ will be dual language)
